Changing the Face of Home Theater

There was a time when owning a home theater projector meant sacrificing image quality for screen size. Not any more. With Sanyo's Z3 LCD home theater projector, movies are sharper, bolder, and more realistic. The Z3's TopazReal technology - real 10-bit digital image processing, an electronic lens iris, and React Image mode - enables higher-definition projection of all your video formats. The Z3 delivers accurate color, superb contrast, and uniform brightness across an entire 100-inch 16:9 screen. Now you can experience DVDs and HDTV with the overwhelming wide-screen impact they deserve. So sit back, switch on, and prepare to be captivated.

The PLV-Z3 employs three wide, 0.7-inch, polysilicon Thin Film Transistor (TFT) LCD panels - one for each of the three RGB channels. Each panel features real 1,280 line x 720 dot resolution, for an impressive total of 2,764,800 pixels. These high-resolution panels enable artifact-free, wide-screen projection up to 100", even in small rooms. Projecting the full size of your DVD and other high-definition images, the PLV-Z3's 16:9 wide LCD panels - with high-definition broadcast compatibility - faithfully re-create the excitement and powerful visuals of the movie theater.

Under the TopazReal banner, SANYO brings together three technologies that improve video signal processing, enable fine-tuned lens iris adjustment, and provide total control of lamp light volume. TopazReal technology ensures higher-definition projection of all video formats.

With 1024 gradations for each of the RGB channels, the PLV-Z3 delivers four times more color gradations than a conventional projector. Regardless of the source, the PLV-Z3 achieves beautiful projection and impressive color precision with approximately 1.07 billion colors.

Via remote control, you can change the amount of projected light in 63 gradations of approximately 0.6%. Contrast can thus be adjusted from 100% down to around 60%. Throughout this fine-tuning, the lens iris contracts and dilates smoothly, without noticeable jumpiness.

The PLV-Z3 analyzes the average picture level (APL) of the screen, and controls the lamp output automatically. Users can choose from among four modes: Bright, React Image 1, React Image 2, and Theater Black. React Image 2 provides a heightened sense of image contrast, while at the same time also reducing noise.

How well blacks are rendered has a crucial impact on the contrast and overall quality of your video images. Thanks to the Lens Diaphragm and SANYO's original Dimmer, the PLV-Z3 achieves a remarkable contrast ratio of 2000:1. The Dimmer measures screen brightness and automatically determines the appropriate volume of light for the lamp. This way, problems with glaring whites or murky, undifferentiated blacks are resolved, as is the problem of a "gray-black" screen. The result: a high-contrast, three-dimensional image with stunningly real blacks.

The PLV-Z3 provides seven one-touch pre-sets to optimize color, brightness, and contrast levels. Simply select the mode best suited to your particular viewing needs.

  Creative Cinema Mode
emphasizes the sense of contrast, as well as any 3-D effects.
  Pure Cinema Mode
reduces excess gradation contrast, for a rich and smoothly-graded picture tone.

  Natural Mode
offers faithful reproduction of the input signal.
  Video Mode
is best suited to projecting sports or dramas from TV.

  Dynamic Mode
enables projection in bright rooms.
  Powerful Mode
provides projection with a sharp, powerful picture tone.

  Graphics Mode
is ideal for projecting graphic images from games or personal computers, etc.

The Advanced Mode provides a range of adjustments to match your viewing requirements: RGB gain; gamma correction; offset adjustment; lens iris adjustment; outline correction; black level extension; and adjustment of the restoration rate of the direct-current.

The high-color-purity optical system divides the lamp light into the three primary colors of red, blue and green, and projects them separately onto the screen. By eliminating color mixing, the PLV-Z3 faithfully reproduces the colors of high-resolution digital video software, such as DVD.

A progressive scan IC ensures superb, high-resolution video images and excellent diagonal resolution.

Each of the PLV-Z3's LCD panels is divided into 825 separate areas (33 x 25) and features highly-accurate 8-tone digital correction for RGB. Balancing uneven color and brightness gradations, the 3D AUCC (Automatic Uniformity Correction Control) circuit ensures a projected image with greater brightness uniformity. You can enjoy a high-resolution big-screen image with image clarity across the whole screen.

Color temperature selection can be adjusted in five steps, depending on the program source, to maximize your viewing pleasure.

The PLV-Z3 comes equipped with an HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface) terminal, the new standard in the digital era. Along with its two other sets of component inputs (including Y/Cb/Cr 3-pin terminals), the HDMI terminal expands your viewing options.

The short throw lens, with its 1.3x optical zoom, projects images onto a 100" screen from a throw distance of around 3 to 4 meters. With large-screen viewing now possible in small rooms, you can at last bring the impact and visual realism of the theater to your home.

The vertical and horizontal lens shift allows you to adjust the screen projection easily, without having to move the actual body of the projector. Lens shifting is not a digital process, but a physical repositioning of the lens itself. This means the adjusted image suffers no visible deterioration, even when shifted up to ±100% vertically or ±50% horizontally. So even if the set-up location is not quite right, the projected image will remain intact. Along with the vertical and horizontal flip functions, the lens shift function provides the flexibility to set up the projector in line with room conditions - it can be hung from the ceiling, put on a shelf, or hung on a wall.

N.B. When shifting over ±50% vertically, you cannot shift the full ±50% horizontally.
When shifting over ±25% horizontally, you cannot shift the full ±100% vertically.

Set-up flexibility is enhanced not only by the lens shift function, but also by digital keystone correction. This compensates for keystone (trapezoidal) picture distortion up to ±20° vertically, for situations where vertical or horizontal lens shift alone isn't enough.

The PLV-Z3 makes an exceptionally low 23dBA* of noise. Along with a new silent Sirocco fan, it features an intelligent Fan Operation Linear Control System, which adjusts the revolving speed of the cooling fan in line with changes in ambient temperature. With undesirable fan noise thus reduced, it's now possible to enjoy those quiet video scenes without a common source of distraction.

The PLV-Z3's drop-down panel not only protects the lens, it also helps give the projector a sleek, minimalist profile. So, when it's not in use, the PLV-Z3 blends in seamlessly with its surroundings.

The illuminated buttons on this multifunction remote control ensure easy operation, even in the dark.

With the My Picture function, you can easily capture your favorite projected image and use it as a startup or default screen. You can also project the image whenever you want by using the My Picture button on the remote control.
N.B. It is not possible to capture RGB digital/analog signals with resolution over 1024 lines x 768 dots. When you capture an original image, the existing My Picture image will be erased.
